Contingency planning is the process of creating "Plan B" scenarios to prepare for, and respond to, unexpected events that could disrupt operations, such as a landslide, pandemic, or IT failure. A good contingency plan involves Risk Assessment, Business Impact Analysis (BIA), developing detailed action steps, assigning responsibilities, establishing communication protocols, and regularly testing and maintaining the plan. It is a key component of Business Continuity and Risk Management, helping organizations minimize impact, maintain operations, and build resilience when facing unforeseen challenges.
